What is the content of 14K and 18K Gold?
Pure Gold is called 24 Karat. Since 24K Gold is very soft Gold Jewelry is normally made from Gold alloys. In the USA we usually use 14K and 18K Gold.
14K Gold Content
This is an alloy of 58% Gold, and the remainder is Silver and Copper.If you want the normal gold color you mix 58% gold, 25% silver and 17% copper.If you want Rose Gold you mix 58% gold with 10% silver and 32% copper.The more copper you add the more pink the gold becomes.Green Gold has 58% gold,35% silver and 7% copper.
If you want white gold you Mix 58% gold with 42% palladium.(they used to use nickle but not so common now).
You should notice that whatever the color of the 14K Gold the percentage of gold remains 58%.
18K Gold Content
18K Gold has 75% Gold mixed with alloys.Normal gold color has 75% gold,15% silver and 10% copper.
18K Rose Gold has 75% Gold, 5% silver and 20% copper.Green Gold has75% gold,25% silver.
